My father's aunt lived in the village, we knew her as Aunt Mary Ann. She shared her cortage, which could be described as typically Corswold, with her son Harry. Both worked for the Squire, she in the big house and he in the stables. We boys often visited them. She was very prim and we had to mind our P's and Q's. "Wipe your boots', she would call out as we stood on the threshold. The downstairs consisted of one large toom.
